Possibilities for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome Treatment

Chronic Fatigue Syndrome is a health condition that many have heard of, but few understand. First identified in the 1980's as a legitimate health condition by part of the medical community, this condition remains a mystery to many people. The result is that there is no universal agreement on what constitutes the best possible Chronic Fatigue Syndrome treatment. This is partially due to the fact that there is no agreement on exactly what triggers the condition.

Addressing the Symptoms: -

One of the more common approaches to Chronic Fatigue Syndrome treatment is to provide the patient with some relief from any symptoms that manifest. While many people understand that CFS involves a level of extreme fatigue that can leave a person bedridden, fewer people are aware of the flu like symptoms, the sense of weakness, and the mental confusion that often accompany the fatigue. Each of these individual symptoms can be managed and increase the odds of being able to work through CFS.

The treatment of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome relies on many of the methods used to treat other conditions that negatively impact physical and mental function. Medications that are sometimes used in the treatment of fibromyalgia, depression, and various types of anxiety disorders are often prescribed to help with body aches, low mood, and the lower level of cognitive skill.

The focus is on avoiding the consumption of simple carbohydrates that tend to provide a temporary high followed by a noticeable decline in energy. Instead, the goal is to build the diet around nutrient rich foods that contain complex carbohydrates and a reasonable amount of fiber. Some medical professionals also recommend additional protein in the diet, with that protein coming from vegetable matter and lean meats.

While exercise may seem like an impossible dream, patients with CFS are urged to engage in whatever physical activity is within their means. For some, this may mean walking around the yard once or twice a day. Others may find that they can walk around the neighborhood, provided they only walk at a normal pace.

Rather than attempting workouts that last for more than thirty minutes, many CFS patients benefit from short routines that last for no more than ten minutes at a time. This is usually enough to help with muscle function and help the blood circulate without overtaxing the fatigued body. Exercise also has the benefit of alleviating some of the mental distress that patients suffer, especially as they slowly find it easier to once again engage in activities that they thought were firmly part of the past.

Diet and Exercise are also tools that are used as part of the Chronic Fatigue Syndrome treatment. There is no known cure for CFS. The condition can linger for years or go into remission at any time. In the interim, working with a physician who is up to date on the current research into CFS can help design a regimen that provides some relief and hope for the future.
